Working with Here to put together an exhibition for London Craft Week 2023, I explored the themes of craft and chaos using code. Working collaboratively with all the departments at the agency, I produced graphics for posters, base shapes for a 3D printed bowl, a poetry webtoy, and created and directed a 3 channel AV installation. In the latter piece, I worked with a composer to develop an algorithm for composing melodies.
Everything was generative and all the graphics were produced with JavaScript or the programming language GLSL.
Codes of Note
Working with the composer Josh Shires at Here, I designed an algorithm that would produce MIDI notes at random, but with some degree of harmony between them. Shires used these notes sequences to form an original composition for piano and saxophone, sometimes leaving the randomness as-is, and sometimes adapting to his own ear.
Once the piece was composed, I created three generative animations that would respond to the sound individually: one for the piano, one for the sax, and one for the combination of the two.
At the exhibition venue, this was installed with three projectors and a PA. I also recreated the scene with a website.
